A workshop that aims to explore how ecosystems shape cultural identities, how local knowledge promotes biodiversity, and how nature-based solutions integrate ecological resilience with the preservation of cultural heritage.

In spring 2025, an inspiring two-phase workshop will take place, co-organized by JPI Climate, JPI Cultural Heritage, and the Centre for Functional Ecology at the University of Coimbra.

This event will explore the vital intersections of cultural ecosystem services and biocultural heritage, fostering collaboration between natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Set against the backdrop of the 20th anniversary of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the UN Pact for the Future, the workshop will delve into innovative concepts, methodologies, and hands-on practices.

Participants will engage with cutting-edge tools like AI and georeferencing while exploring the rich tapestry of cultural expressions tied to ecosystems.
