Islands for Sustainability: Biocultural Heritage, Ecosystem Services, and Climate Resilience
Islands and coastal habitats, while diverse in context, share common challenges and opportunities in the pursuit of sustainability, particularly concerning climate change, biodiversity conservation, and renewable energy. These regions are especially vulnerable to global environmental changes, yet they also offer unique potential for studying these transformations and implementing innovative sustainability strategies, providing local solutions to global challenges.
As part of the COST Action CA21166 – Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate Resilience (SHiFT), Islands for Sustainability seeks to integrate critical practices, transdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement to address the complex dynamics of island sustainability.
This initiative seeks to build networks that transcend disciplinary silos, ensuring that marginalized voices, local knowledge, and participatory methods are integrated into broader sustainability frameworks. By participating, you contribute to shaping new pathways for resilience, social innovation, and sustainable island futures.
How to participate?
All interested participants are invited to submit proposals that reflect their vision for preserving and protecting island environments and their unique natural and cultural heritage.
The call for contributions is open until April 15, 2025
Travel and Subsistence Grants available.
