Memories of Biosphere Reserves: Príncipe Island

Reservas da Biosfera 20 de February, 2025

A new Insight that invites you to discover, through memories and testimonies, the deep connection between the Príncipe community and Nature

Príncipe has been part of UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves since 2012. The island’s nature is as lush as it is fragile. This environmental richness is also reflected in its culture. It is a symbiotic reality worth understanding and valuing, as the future depends on preserving this heritage in the present.

In 2022, the project Being Principense: Art, Culture, and Heritage in the Past, Present, and Future aimed to enhance awareness of Príncipe Island’s heritage (São Tomé and Príncipe), recognizing its inseparable connection to the land and the communities that inhabit it.
