Mountains for Sustainability Workshop

Mountain ecosystems are vital, covering 22% of Earth’s surface and housing half of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. This event, promoted by SHiFT COST Action, will explore the beauty and challenges of the Serra da Estrela mountains, home to the highest peak in mainland Portugal and one of its most treasured natural landscapes. This Workshop focuses on mountain conservation and the intersection of culture, sustainability, and climate resilience.

The program includes:

• Guided nature trails showcasing Serra da Estrela’s diverse landscapes;


• Engaging with local communities to explore their cultural traditions;


• In-depth discussions on safeguarding mountain ecosystems from climate change.
