Nature's Contributions from Biosphere Reserves at “Ação Bandeira 2024”
On November 16, more than 600 scouts took part in the 6th edition of Ação Bandeira [Action Flag], an activity integrated into the “Month of the Sea,” promoted by the Corpo Nacional de Escutas (CNE = Portuguese Catholic Scouts) in partnership with the Oceano Azul Foundation. This year, the initiative was hosted by the Lisbon Regional Board (CNE) and the local authorities of Parque das Nações.
The morning was dedicated to a cleanup activity along the Trancão River. The afternoon featured games, workshops, and activities focusing on environmental themes such as sustainability, oceans, and waste, organized by various institutional partners and the National Environment Department of the CNE.
The Biosphere Reserves project conducted the workshop “Nature’s Contributions from Biosphere Reserves,” which involved around 90 young participants aged 6 to 18. During the activity, the scouts explored ecosystems, their services, and the biodiversity of two Biosphere Reserves using illustrated maps and cards that represented nature’s contributions to people, as well as emblematic or endemic species from these areas.
